World Championship Competitor Shane Jones Joins Pennsylvania Regional Training Center

Philadelphia, PA – July 17, 2025 – The Pennsylvania Regional Training Center (PRTC) is proud to announce the addition of Shane Jones, a World Championship competitor and three-time Pan American medalist, to its senior-level roster.

Jones, a native of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, brings an impressive resumè to the PRTC. After graduating from Stroudsburg High School in 2015, he walked on to the wrestling team at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Through hard work and perseverance, Jones became a three-year starter for the Monarchs, earning 80 career victories and serving as team captain. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.

Following his collegiate career, Jones moved to Puerto Rico with his wife, Kristie, where he began teaching elementary school. While there, his passion for wrestling reignited at a local club called Sparta. This sparked the start of an international career representing Puerto Rico. Jones has since captured three Pan American Championship medals, most recently a silver in 2025 in Monterrey, Mexico. His most notable achievement came in 2024 when he placed 7th in the world at the UWW World Championships in Tirana, Albania, solidifying his status as one of the top wrestlers in his weight class globally.

Joining the PRTC represents the next chapter in Jones' journey to excellence. "Becoming a member of the PRTC to me means an opportunity to continue pursuing my dreams while also being surrounded by like-minded individuals," Jones said. "I am excited to be a part of something bigger than myself. I believe in service and helping other become better versions of themselves. The wrestling community in Philadelphia brings out the best in our sport and allows its members to experience the valuable intangibles from our sport."

Matt Valenti, Head Wrestling Coach at the University of Pennsylvania and PRTC coach, expressed his excitement about the addition: "We're thrilled to add Shane Jones and his family to our community. He's competed at the highest level of the sport, but just as important, he's all-in on helping the PRTC, Penn Wrestling, and the entire wrestling community grow. We haven't known him long, but it's already clear: he's our kind of person."

Jones, a 79kg athlete, currently resides in East Falls, Philadelphia, with his wife Kristie, and their son, Zeke, as he continues training for future international competitions.
