Drexel Mert '67 and Joanne '69 Hill Head Coach of Wrestling Matt Azevedo announced the hiring of Mauro Correnti as an assistant coach for the Drexel wrestling team on Monday morning.
"I am very excited for Mauro to join our staff," Azevedo said. "He has a passion for coaching that you can feel and see in how hard he works for his athletes. I look forward to working with Mauro, I know he will add so much value to our program, especially the upper weights."
The Delran, N.J. native spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Hofstra, primarily working with the upper weights. During his time with the Pride, he helped coach three wrestlers to the NCAA Championships. Prior to his time in Long Island, he was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Holy Cross Preparatory Academy. He was responsible for creating and implementing weekly practice schedules and assisting athletes in getting recruited to collegiate wrestling programs across the country.
Correnti has trained as a Flex Athlete with the Pennsylvania Regional Training Center since 2018. Additionally, he was a four-year member of the Rider University wrestling program. Correnti won 61 matches in his career as a heavyweight with the Broncs, and placed third at the 2016 and 2017 Eastern Wrestling League Championships. In 2016, he earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. He was also a member of the Lock Haven University wrestling program in 2013-14. Correnti graduated from Rider University, completing his bachelor's degree in sociology in 2017, and his master's degree in athletic leadership in 2018.
